For five years, I have worked in primary and secondary schools across London and beyond. In an independent, freelance capacity, and as part of the Poetry Society’s Poets in Schools programme. I have delivered creative writing programmes, workshops, book clubs, assemblies and poetry performances. I have supported young people to get up on stage and read their words in front of their peers, teachers and parents. It is my mission to help children and young people feel that writing is for them and their words and stories are important and need to be heard. Do reach out if you have an idea or would love a workshop, series, visit or writing club at your school.

I work closely with schools to design and deliver creative writing experiences that are tailored, engaging and genuinely impactful for both students and staff. I take time to understand the needs and wants of the school whether that’s supporting a particular year group, building confidence in reluctant writers, or enriching your wider curriculum.

My in-school work can include:

  • Poetry and creative writing workshops

  • Whole-school assemblies and poetry performances

  • Residencies and longer-term programmes that allow pupils to develop their writing over time

  • Performance opportunities, supporting children to share their work with confidence

  • CPD sessions for staff, offering practical strategies to bring creative writing to life in the classroom

Sessions are playful, energetic and rooted in the idea that writing is for everyone. I create spaces where children can experiment, take risks, be playful, collaborate and surprise themselves with what they come up with. Whether we’re building poems together, playing with language, writing stories and plays or performing out loud, the focus is always on helping young people feel confident, creative and proud of their words.

“We were delighted to welcome Caroline to our school to deliver a poetry workshop, and she was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Caroline was highly professional, enthusiastic and approachable, taking the time to fully understand our school’s needs and requirements. She carefully planned and delivered a series of engaging sessions for pupils from Reception through to Year 6.

Her presentations were lively and inspiring, encouraging children to have fun, experiment with language and play confidently with words. Caroline explored a wide range of poetry forms, helping pupils to develop both their creativity and their understanding of different poetic styles. Her warm and friendly manner immediately put the children at ease.

In addition to the pupil workshops, Caroline also led CPD training sessions for staff. These were extremely well prepared, informative and practical. She answered all questions thoughtfully and shared a wealth of ideas and strategies for inspiring poetry writing, harnessing children’s creativity, and supporting reluctant writers in the classroom.

We would highly recommend Caroline to any school looking for an inspiring poet and educator who brings energy, expertise and a genuine love of poetry to her work.”
